This is my way of expressing my deepest artistic nature.
I have been a photographer and artist as long as I can remember - even back in elementary school. I can still remember the first time I worked in the darkroom and watched as a print slowly appeared in front of my eyes. Even though digital printing has replaced much of my darkroom work, photography has not lost that special magic for me.
My earlier work encompassed things like hand-colored black and white. Now, it is moving to new tools like digital cameras, computers, an iPad, and various software programs and apps. I like experimenting with more unusual tools like pinhole cameras without lenses, antique view cameras, toy cameras and I’m even starting to use film again. There are lots of new photographic and printing processes and materials as well as the older ones I use to bring my visions to fruition.
I have strived to express myself with a smooth, romantically interpreted vision. Now I am moving into digital painting with brighter colors. My work is becoming much more personal. I use the technique of tightly cropping to focus viewers on my focal point. I prefer working candidly, allowing my subjects to show their inner workings. I like to create an environment in the studio or in nature that encourages subjects to reveal themselves on their own terms. Capturing the image on film or digitally is just the beginning. I like to use digital painting to shape the image into a form I create as I used to do with Polaroid manipulation techniques.
A favorite subject of mine has always been the female form. I also enjoy the use of colorful scenes. I accept commissions on a limited basis to create custom pieces involving people acting out favorite aspects of their lives.
